WHITEFISH MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM

Welcome to the new 2019 Middle School Program, in Whitefish! This new program ignites Moving beyond MICRO, we introduce the MIDDLE SCHOOL PROGRAM program for our 5/6 Grade and 7/8 grade players, who are itching for more. This program instills a more structured and competitive environment, where players start to familiarize themselves more with game and the passion for soccer comes out. Our volunteer coaches are dedicating their time to provide a healthy environment for all of our participants. Coaches are supported with age appropriate practice plans, coaching resources, and guidance from our program directors. Currently, we’re sending rosters to coaches to provide any last minute feedback. Once rosters are set, coaches will be contacting their team to set up first practices.


QUICK OVERVIEW


Dates: Sept 7th - Oct 26th

Season: 8 weeks + Regional Tournament

Competition: Columbia Falls, Whitefish, Polson, Bigfork, Plains, &  Kalispell. 

Practices: 1-2 per week at SMITH FIELDS COMPLEX

Games: During the week and on Saturdays


IMPORTANT DATES

August 23rd: Coaches will receive rosters to review and provide feedback, if they’re any last minute changes.

August 26th: Coaches clinic and equipment pick-up.

  • Columbia Falls High School game field

  • 5-8pm (classroom and field session)

August 28th: Deadline for coaches to contact families for first practice

September 2nd: First official week of practice (coaches may choose to start earlier, if they wish)

September 7th: First Saturday morning games!

5TH/6TH GRADE

COACHING

This program relies heavily on volunteer coaches to keep the cost low and remain accessible to all families. Our coaches are supported by our Rapids Technical Director, Montana Youth Soccer educational clinics, and access to our coaches center, which has hundreds of age appropriate activities. Coaches are registered through the Montana Youth Soccer system, where they receive a background check and concussion training. It’s essential that our coaches provide a fun and successful experience for your child. It’s important that we support our coaches and give them the necessary tools to create a healthy environment for our participants.

PRACTICES

  • Smith Fields, 1600 Hospital Way, Whitefish, MT 59937 (View map HERE)

  • TIME/DAY: 1 practice/week - Day and time of practices are chosen by your coach.

  • DURATION: Recommended practice length is 1.5 hour for this age group.

  • FORMAT: Our volunteer coaches have access to our Rapids Coaching Corner, with hundreds of age appropriate practice plans, meant to not only develop the player, but to help become a better coach.

GAMES

  • LOCATION: Schedule will be rotated from Columbia Falls, Kalispell, and Bigfork, Polson, and other surrounding communities.

  • TIME/DAY: All games are on Saturday mornings and possible Thursday games

  • DURATION: 25 min halves

  • FORMAT:

    • 9V9

    • Equal playing time

    • Size 4 balls

    • Game is managed by the coaches and referees

    • Goal Keepers

PLAYER EQUIPMENT

  • Cleats are required at this age. If you’re not excited about buying new cleats, there’re thrift stores around the valley, that usually have used equipment.

  • Shinguards are required for practices and games.

  • Water bottle

  • Warm clothes for the intermittent spring weather

  • Since most of the leg is covered with soccer socks, shorts are usually a good option.

  • If you have a soccer ball at home, please bring it to practices. Coaches are provided equipment, but more balls the better!
