Beloved Rapids Coach Kelsey Whitby was diagnosed with Glioblastoma (GBM) when she was 24 years old. Only 10% of GBM patients survive five years, but Kelsey was always determined to live life on her terms. She survived for 6.5 years before passing away in October of 2018.
Kelsey married her best friend, Derrick, in 2015, and they have a beautiful son, Otto, who was born in December 2016. They make their home in Whitefish, Montana and are proud to be members of their community. Derrick runs his own business, Weathervane Builders, and he works long hours in a job he loves to support his family. Kelsey coached the Whitefish youth soccer team for years, becoming a beloved member of the Rapids Family.
The Flathead Rapids would like to remember Kelsey’s dedication to local youth by providing an opportunity for members to donate to the Kelsey Whitby Scholarship Fund, as well as a memorial to be created near the playground at Smith Fields. The scholarship will help provide needed funds for families to get their sons and daughters involved with youth soccer, and the memorial will continue to provide a safe space for young players to get outside and enjoy the game of soccer.
