2018 Fall Competitive Rapids Teams

U10 Girls

Head Coach: Missy Jonson

Missy was born and raised in Colorado and recently moved to Whitefish in December of 2018.  She started her soccer career at the age of 4 and still continues to have the love for the game.  Missy played soccer for Club Columbine, later to be renamed as Colorado Storm.  She played for Columbine High School's junior varsity team where she was the team captain in her early high school years.  She later played for the varsity team where many state championships have been won.  After her high school soccer career Missy attended the University of Northern Colorado where she obtained her bachelors degree in Secondary Education and Mathematics.  During her college years she played for the UNC club team focusing on both her studies as well as playing soccer on the side.  Missy later earned her Masters degree in Counseling in 2004.

Missy’s coaching career started while she was teaching mathematics at an inner city high school in Denver, CO.  She was head coach for both the junior varsity and varsity teams for over 4 years.  She then took a break from coaching while she got married and had her two children.  Missy started coaching youth soccer when her children started to play the game.  She has been coaching youth soccer since 2013 and still loves not only the game but watching the love of soccer in the eyes of her players.  Her main focus on coaching is instilling the love for the game, respecting others, good sportsmanship and building life long characteristics of a well rounded person.  She is excited to start coaching for the Flathead Rapids.

U10 Boys

Head Coach: Shepherd Waldenberger

Shepherd grew up in Virginia, playing soccer as long as he can remember.  In middle school, he traveled abroad to Italy and Austria with his club team, and as the captain of his U18 team, he helped lead them to their first ever State championship.  Shepherd was also a four-year starter and two-year captain for his high school team. After graduating, he attended Dickinson College, where he was a four-year starter and helped lead the Red Devils to their first ever Centennial Conference championship and several runs into the NCAA playoffs.  He also spent several weeks training and competing in Brazil with his team.

After graduating, Shepherd traveled the west, played in various adult leagues, and became a Science teacher in New Mexico.  Since moving to the Flathead Valley last year, he has worked as an outdoor educator with Glacier Institute, Glacier National Park, and Ravenwood OLC.  He is excited to combine his love of soccer and working with youth as a coach for the Rapids.
