Coaching Staff:

We pride ourselves on providing the best competitive coaching staff in the valley/region.  Our high-level Rapids coaches are licensed through US Youth Soccer and each have a unique background in the game of soccer.  In addition to their soccer knowledge, we recruit staff who represent the Flathead Rapids well and can be role models to our youth.  We like to attract quality individuals, who guide our players on the field and instill qualities that positively impact players off the field.

Our staff is managed/cultivated by our Executive Director and are guided by our Rapids Club Curriculum, which outlines their entire season and gives specific topics to focus on week-to-week.  This will help to follow the Rapids’ developmental model and philosophies to give our players an excellent opportunity to grow and develop.  Rapids Club Curriculum can be found here.

We look forward to providing you a great staff this year!

After evaluations are over, our director and coaching staff will take a few days to look at our age groups in depth.  Coaches will make contact with participants, within 7 days to inform players of their spring competitive team. Our goal is to provide all players a chance to play at their age/ability level. It’s important that we take time to make good decisions and find a good environment for your son or daughter.  We hope families can support the club in our decisions and work with us to give your son/daughter a great experience.

Player Expectations

The evaluation experience can be an intimidating process for our youth players.  Our coaching staff is looking for players, who are not only talented soccer players, but players that work hard, listen, are respectful to staff/teammates, follow instruction, are punctual, enjoy the game, and can be a part of a team.  We encourage all players to work hard and showcase their talents throughout the process.  Again, our ultimate goal is to find every player, at every level, the chance to play in a healthy environment to develop and enjoy the game.

Selections

It’s always difficult to say definitively, at this early stage, exactly what the teams are going to look like in the Spring. Part of the reason for this is that registration numbers fluctuate from year to year.  Our aim is to provide an opportunity for players to be on a team with players of a similar playing ability, which is difficult sometimes to provide when certain players are new to the game and others have been playing their entire lives.

That being said, we're going to figure out a way to accommodate every player that comes through our program. If the numbers allow, we will create two teams at an age level, and split them either into an A and B team or mix into even teams for developmental purposes.

If registration numbers don’t allow for the formation of two teams, we have a couple of options. First, we can try and find a good fit for a player in another age group depending on their skill level and MYSA regulations. This is tricky but definitely an option we will look into. Second, we can keep a group of players on a “practice squad” who train with their team at every training, but is not rostered for the games. This option is great because many times players have to miss tournaments and games, so these practice players are there to fill in. It also drives up competition on the team and players still get to practice and play with their friends and classmates.

Every player who registers for the Spring Competitive program will have a place in the Rapids organization. Concrete announcements about those teams are hard to make until we know exact numbers, but our staff of coaches will let players and families know as soon as possible what the teams and rosters will look like in the Spring.

Team Formation:

The Executive Director, Head Coach, Assistant Coach, and volunteer assistants will be present at each tryout session to assist in team formations. We are focused on creating competitive teams that provide the best level of team competition and individual player development possible.

Playing up (above the player’s true age level) is a very rare occurrence, and will only be considered if it is in the best developmental interest of the individual player. This is determined during tryouts, though the player is asked to try out with their own age group. A panel, which consists of the Executive Director and other coaches, will be assembled to discuss the best placement for the player. Please note that playing up is not common and the vast majority of players will be playing their 'true' age group. Coaches may make a recommendation to a player to try out for an older team (based on a previous season’s performance), but players can ask to be considered for playing up as well.

Training Schedule:

All Competitive and Youth Competitive teams will train at least 2 times per week when we get outside, with an option to do more, if coaches and families are willing and able.

Coaches will schedule practice times as they seem fit for their team & their own personal schedule.  Through the assistance of a team manager and initial communication with families, coaches will determine the best time for training. This will be communicated to you as soon as possible.

Most training is conducted on Mon, Tues, Wed, or Thursday between 4pm and 7pm.  Your coach will update you on your training schedule.
